Red Team Defeats White Team 115-107 at Ball State Intrasquad

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team began its 2016-17 season with the annual Red and White meet at Lewellen Aquatics Center Saturday morning.

Team captain Kimberly Scott guided the Red Team to a win over the White Team, which was led by team captain Courtney Mudd. The Red Team scored 115 points while the White Team had 107.

Freshman Anne Vormohr had a great first collegiate swim by placing first in the 100 backstroke and second in the 50 freestyle for the Red Team. Vormohr was also part of the first place finishes in the 200-medley relay, along with Jessica Extine, Amanda Kedzierski and Traci Muszalski, and 400 freestyle relay.

Freshman Sophie Bader also had a great first outing at Lewellen by placing first in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly. She was also part of the third place finish in the 200 medley relay and the second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.

Other top finishers on the day were senior Jessica Extine in the 50 freestyle, freshman Liz Graham in the 500 freestyle, junior Amanda Kedzierski in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and sophomore Liz Madison in the 200 freestyle.

On the diving board for the Red Team were Taylor Fiew and Rachel Smallwood. Representing the White Team on the board was Rachel Bertram, Courtney McKeen and Brittany Penn.

Veteran head coach Kristy Patterson was very pleased with how her squad looked today.

“Today was a good meet for us to see where we are with training,” Patterson said. “We have a lot to improve on before our next competition with some race tactics, but we are very pleased with the results overall.”

“Our freshmen had a strong showing with some big time drops coming from our returning athletes,” added Patterson. “We seem to be ahead of where we were last year at this time, which is always a positive way to start off the season.”

The Cardinals begin regular season action on Saturday, Oct. 22 in for the Indiana Intercollegiate meet in West Lafayette, Ind.
