Redlands East Valley Wins 15 of 22 to Claim Citrus Belt League Titles

The boys and girls of Redlands East Valley dominated the Citrus Belt League Championships at Crafton Hills College last Thursday, winning all but seven events to claim victories in their respective team races.

Girls’ Meet

Redlands East Valley opened the score with a big win in the 200 medley relay from Emily Longfellow (27.63), Jenna Sanchez (31.69), Autumn D’Arcy (25.06), and Emily Rigsby (24.09) who combined for 1:48.47 to win by more than 14 seconds over Citrus Valley and Redlands. REV also won the 200 free relay (Sanchez, Sydney Benveniste, Alexa Melara, and Mikayla Jean) with 1:40.14 and the 400 free relay with 3:35.65. Redlands was second in both relays.

Rigsby and D’Arcy each logged a pair of individual wins for REV. Rigsby went 1:55.82 to take the 200 free over Sarah Lingenfelter of Yucaipa (2:00.87). She also won the 100 free, coming to the wall in 52.57. Alex Zak of Redlands was runner-up in 56.75. D’Arcy grabbed a win in the 100 fly in 55.09 ahead of teammate Benveniste (56.35). Niki Proctor of Redlands was third with 57.51. D’Arcy also won the 100 back, just barely out-touching teammate Emily Longfellow, 57.67 to 57.73.

Longfellow led a 1-2-3 REV sweep in the 200 IM, touching in 2:08.77 ahead of Jean (2:12.30) and Melara (2:15.25). Jean won the 500 free in 5:17.87. Yucaipa’s Lingenfelter came in second with 5:24.00.

Melissa Pepper of Redlands won the 50 free by a half body length, clocking a 24.70 to beat both Benveniste (25.12) and Sanchez (25.35) of REV. Pepper’s teammate Proctor cruised to a win by a four-second margin in the 100 breast, clocking a 1:04.36 while REV’s Melara (1:08.25) and Sanchez (1:08.92) rounded out the podium.

Boys’ Meet

Redlands East Valley set the tone early with a win in the 200 medley relay. Benji Duenas (25.67), Jack Moyles (26.10), Reymond Munson (24.04), and Kyle Acevedo (21.58) combined for 1:37.39. Redlands went 1:39.25 for second place; Yucaipa came in third with 1:41.15, just ahead of Citrus Valley (1:41.80). REV (Acevedo, Christian Solia, Duenas, and Moyles) won the 200 free relay in 1:28.40. Citrus Valley edged Yucapia for second, 1:30.80 to 1:30.90.

Cajon’s Simone Bianco dropped 2 seconds from his prelims swim and stunned the field with a win in the 200 free by a mere 1/100. In so doing he notched the first league title in school history. Bianco came to the wall in 1:45.93. REV’s Daniel Precie was runner-up with 1:45.94, while Kyrellos Ibrahim of Redlands was third with 1:46.64, beating his teammate Matthew Keeling by .29. Ibrahim went on to win the 500 free over Keeling, 4:49.17 to 4:50.78.

REV’s Moyles earned a pair of victories, starting with the 200 IM which he won with 1:57.00. Teammate Duenas was second with 1:58.48. Daniel Pry of Redlands was third in 1:59.11. He also won the 100 breast, edging Cajon’s Mathias Holdrup, 58.41 to 58.74.

Acevedo won the 50 free in 21.51 over Redlands teammates Tom Frye (21.93) and Sofiane Dissem (22.35). REV’s Duenas won the 100 fly in 52.44 and narrowly missed a second title in the 100 free. Redlands’ Frye accelerated over the final 15 meters to get the win, 47.71 to 48.09. Yucaipa’s Jacob White was third in that race with 48.55.

Jack Topoleski of Redlands, who had finished in the 100 fly with 53.86, coming in just ahead of Yucaipa’s Campbell Harris (54.07), won the 100 back in 53.35 over teammates Pry (53.57) and Elijah Devera (55.97).

Redlands (Devera, Ibrahim, Keeling and Frye) demolished the field in the final event of the evening, clocking a 3:17.70 in the 400 free relay to win by 8 seconds over Cajon (3:25.58) and Redlands East Valley (3:27.64).
