LOS ANGELES – The University of Redlands Women’s Water Polo team (5-14, 4-3) won their second straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game following a 9-3 road win at Occidental College on Saturday morning.
The Bulldogs got off to a 4-0 lead thanks to a defensive effort that held the Tigers scoreless for the first 13 plus minutes to start the game. The Maroon and Grey earned a pair of goals from Katrina Nielsen (Houston, TX), and goals from Courtney Sawin (Tacoma, WA) and Hannah Long (Rancho Cucamonga, CA).
Coming out of the half, the Bulldogs’ lead was only two, 4-2, as the Tigers scored twice in the final three minutes of the first half. Despite the second quarter ending, the second half saw Redlands take a five-goal lead, 7-2, after Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) got herself a hat trick in less than three minutes into the third.
Occidental picked one back up with :44 seconds left in the third, but Long scored :20 seconds later and Danielle Cary (Riverside, CA) tallied the lone goal in the fourth as the Bulldogs cruised to a 9-3 win.
Parker scored three goals for the game, while Nielsen and Long each had two. In goal Tori Zielinski (Sunnyvale, CA) continued her push to be the top goalkeeper in Division III as she allowed only three goals while saving six for a .667 save percentage.
The Bulldogs return home this Wednesday, April 5 for a SCIAC matchup with Chapman University beginning at 7:00 p.m.
