Reece Whitley Misses NAG Record By Hours, Not Seconds, At NCAP Invite

Day 2 of the NCAP Invitational got underway this morning with the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard free, 100-yard fly, 400-yard IM and 200-yard freestyle relay.

This evening, Reece Whitley posted the second fastest 15-16 100 breaststroke in history with an incredible time of 52.56. Across the country at the Jr National Championships in Austin however, Michael Andrew beat him to the punch. Michael Andrew earned the top seed in the 100 breaststroke this morning with a 52.50, finishing just ahead of Whitley’s time from this evening.

Had Whitley swum that time this morning, he would have broken Carsten Vissering’s national age group record of 52.83. This morning, Whitley earned the top seed in the event at the NCAP Invite with a time of 53.40.

Whitley is now just the third 15-16 year old swimmer in history to break the 53 second barrier. The second two swims under 53 seconds have both been today.
