Regan Hau Commits to Colgate with Times Nearly as Fast as Freshman Records

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

A top-8 finisher at the 2021 VHSL Class 6A Swimming and Diving State Championships, Regan Hau has announced that she will be swimming at Colgate University this fall. Hau is currently in her senior year at the James Madison School.

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Colgate University! I couldn’t have done it without the support of my family, friends, coaches, and teammates. I can’t wait for the next four years! Go ‘gate!!”

Hau was a state qualifier in both her sophomore and junior years. As a sophomore, she made it into the B-final of the 100 breast, ultimately taking 10th in a time of 1:05.87. She improved upon that finish as a junior, taking 6th in the timed finals-only competition. At that meet, she finished over a second and a half faster than she did the previous year, stopping the clock in 1:04.26.
Over the summer, Hau competed at the NCSA Summer Swimming Championships representing her club team, Machine Aquatics. She made it into finals of both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, finishing in the top-8 of the 100. In that event, she took 8th with a lifetime best swim of 1:14.33. She finished 22nd in 2:46.52. That swim was also a lifetime best.

Top SCY Times

  • 100 breast – 1:03.39
  • 200 breast – 2:18.98
  • 200 IM – 2:09.80
  • 400 IM – 4:44.80

Hau is a huge addition to the program in the breaststroke events. With time still left to improve before she arrives on campus, she already has times in the breaststroke events that are just tenths off of the team’s freshman records. Both of those records were set in by Emily Murphy, who also holds the overall team records in both events. She will also be one of the best breaststrokers to be a part of the program since those records were set in 2009.

While the 2021 Patriot League Championships were canceled amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, the Colgate women came in 7th at the 2020 edition of the meet. With her best times, Hau would have made it into the A-final of both breaststroke events.
Colgate is just its second full season under a new coaching staff led by Ed Pretre. Pretre, along with assistant Dana Grindall, joined the program during the summer of 2019. While the staff had a full season in 2019-2020, the Raiders only competed in three competitions during the 2020-2021 school year.

There once lived a reggo in the hause,
which hid in west virginia like a mouse.
She slept often in bliss,
but swim she’d never miss
because she awoke at the sight of her spouse!

REGAN IS A #GIRLBOSS! She single-handedly saved me from a burning building, cured my dog’s crippling depression, and also donated her left kidney to my dying grandmother. Not to mention, she is a world-renowned rubik’s-cuber, just dance champion, and record-breaking wordle-ist. To call her a girlboss of many talents would be an understatement. Please do not refrain from challenging her to a cube-off!
