Although Regan Smith came up short of the world record she was aiming for in the 100 back last night, the backstroke ace still got under her previous US Open record while earning a national title. This is Smith’s first taper with new coach Bob Bowman and she says it’s a learning process, with constant 2-way communication between coach and athlete.
Trust the process.
You can see the genuine happiness on her face after races this year, didn’t see that in 2021 or 2022 from her so I’m glad she’s found her groove
I can’t wait to see her and Kaylee battle head to head when they are both at their best. Let’s go Regan!
Regan: “I trust him [Coach Bob Bowman] completely.”
That sounds like a “100” on a scale from 1 to 100.

Phelps also said he had complete faith in Bob. I guess things work out well when there’s communication.
College swimming isn’t for everyone.
Swimming for a college with high academic requirements is not for everyone. Some are quite successful balancing the two. Others aren’t. Case in point.
It’s really quite sad to see genuinely uninformed (if I’m being generous) people like you trying to push the narrative that Regan couldn’t handle the academics at Stanford. This is blatantly false. But continue to lie to yourself and the readers of this site if it somehow feeds your ego or perhaps a need to rationalize your own life choices.
Actually you are incorrect. Stanford and other high academic schools are very hard to balance with swimming. Stanford just got finished with finals 12 days before Worlds started. Not an easy ask. Regan had to work that last year with finals the week of NCAAs. (Did you ever take a final between prelims and finals!). Also, coming out of Covid was a struggle. Regan has said she is better where she can focus on swimming full time and she is undoubtedly more relaxed—who wouldn’t be? Coach Meehan was not a perfect match but was not the issue. Regan had too much piled on and needed to remove school to focus on swimming. It was HER decision and one that we… Read more »
