14-year old Regan Smith broke the 13-14 National Age Group Record in the 100 long course meter backstroke on Friday evening. She swam a 1:00.26, which improves upon the 1:00.31 that she swam in prelims on Friday at the 2016 U.S. Open in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The record previously belonged to Missy Franklin, who has since gone on to win 4 Olympic gold medals and 11 World Championships, including 8 of them combined as a backstroker.

• Smith Prelims: 29.23/31.08 = 1:00.31

Smith went-for-broke on the opening 50 meters, where she led the field, and while she paid on the back-half of the race, she still had enough to re-break the record.

Smith took 2nd place in the race behind Australian veteran Holly Barratt, who swam 59.96.
