Regan Smith started this LCM season with some “off” events, competing in the 200 IM and 400 IM in Greensboro before jumping into her usual 100 back, 200 back, and 200 fly. Looking back a little earlier in the season, Smith recalled the set of 10×50@50 that she swam 2 days before becoming the first woman to ever swim a 1:48 in the 200y fly.

Her best shot at an individual gold medal is probably the 200 fly. Though she’d have to beat McIntosh.

I’m sure she will battle Kaylee in the backstrokes with everything she’s got. It may take a 56 to beat Kaylee in the 100 back.

She’s totally dialed into her swimming now, you can hear it in her voice. She’s working very hard and has American records now in the backstrokes and 200 fly.

I am pulling for her to get that individual gold medal. It’s McIntosh and Kaylee that are blocking her path.

You can see that Regan is pure hard work and sheer focus. Kaylee surely puts up thousands of hours as well, but she has just that little extra of natural talent which gives her the edge. She’s also a bit taller which makes a huge difference at this level of competition.
Same thing with Summer.

I always root for Regan because she so much deserves the titles, but I guess she had the bad luck of being born in the wrong generation. In all the events she excels at, there is an even bigger beast by her side.

Anything can happen though, keep training!

I don’t believe 90% of swimmer practice times and sets. You’re telling me she was holding like 1.5-2 sec off probably what she could do in a 50 fly from the blocks 10x on 50 sec. Yeah right

Is it bad that I wanna see Alex Walsh make the move to ASU after she graduates? Feel like she would thrive in that group.

I would not be surprised if she is the best female practice swimmer on the planet. I believe she’ll out performed her 2019 world’s performance next summer.
