Report: Aussie Shayna Jack’s CAS Hearing Imminent

In March of this year, Australian swimmer Shayna Jack was handed a 4-year ban by the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA).

As a refresher on the case, the 21-year old sprinter from Brisbane returned home to Australia in the middle of the country’s final preparation camp for the 2019 World Aquatics Championships, at the time saying that her withdrawal was for “personal reasons.” It was later revealed that Jack had tested positive for the banned substance Ligandrol.

Jack’s four-year ban is the maximum allowed for a first offense and implies that not only was she unable to prove a source of contamination but that she was unable to convince ASADA that her ingestion was accidental.

We previously reported that although she did not testify before ASADA, Jack is expected to take the stand whenever it is her case is heard by CAS. That time is apparently fast-approaching, as her St. Peters Western coach Dean Boxall told ABC radio this week that, “Shayna will hopefully find out this next week when her date is for CAS.”

Boxall continued, “Everything has basically been finalized. We are now just waiting for CAS. The finalities are coming up, so that’s exciting. It is coming to the end, which is fantastic.

“We feel really positive about it,” he added.

However, Boxall indicates his protege is also facing a possibly career-ending reality.

“She is also nervous the poor girl because she knows this is it, you have no more road to go on,” he said. “What comes up ahead is where we will be… the date is pretty soon, it will be imminent really.

“This whole journey is coming to an end.”
