Rhode Island swept the top three spots in five different events, and freshman Aimee Garcia won three individual events as the Rams opened the season with a 164-136 win at Maine Saturday.

Rhody (1-0) got its momentum going in the 1000 freestyle, where senior Sabrina Anderson, sophomore Zoe Sheridan and junior Cara Megill took the top three spots. Anderson was well ahead of the field, posting a time of 10:56.52 to win the race by more than three seconds and collect nine team points for the Rams.

Garcia won the 500-yard freestyle to lead a quarter of Rams that took the top four spots. Anderson was second, Sheridan placed third and Megill was fourth, though only the top three Rhody finishers could collect points.

Another freshmen to win multiple events in her debut was Julia Renna. Her victory in the 200-yard backstroke paced another 1-2-3 finish for the Rams. Sophomore Kaitlyn Bansky and senior Emma Grace Pecha followed Renna to the wall.

Rhode Island swept the top four spots in both diving events. Senior Alyssa Campone won the 1-meter dive, followed by freshman Marta Baumann and junior Cameron Murray. Senior Katy Evans gave Rhody the top four finishers, but only top three could score.

In the 3-meter dive, it was Baumann, Evans, Murray and Campone in order for the top four spots.
