How It Happened
Rhode Island won at Wagner, 156-144, Sunday to improve to 8-0, the best start in program history.

Seniors Cailtin Guccione and Sabrina Anderson along with freshman Julia Renna each won a pair of events, and the Rams swept the top three spots in both diving events.

Guccione won both the 200-yard and 100-yard butterfly events, continuing her strong season. It was the fourth time this season she has won both events.

Anderson added victories in both the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle races, while Renna had victories in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes. In addition to the individual wins, Rhody won the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Renna, Rebecca YountsCaitlin Guccione and Camryn Kreuscher.

The trio of Alyssa Campone, Kathryn Evans and Cameron Murray dominated the two diving events. Campone won the 1-meter dive, while Evans took the 3-meter dive. Evans also was second in the 1-meter, followed by Murray. Murray and Campone were second and third, respectively, in the 3-meter dive.

Standouts From the Pool

  • Mackenna Dunn provided a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, and a third-place in the 100-yard freestyle.
  • Aimee Garcia offered a third place in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard IM and fourth in the 200-yard breastroke.

What’s Next
The Rams are back at home Saturday when they host Vermont on Jan. 18. The meet begins at 12 p.m.

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College swimming and diving team dropped a 207-93 decision at NYU on Saturday, before losing a tightly contested 156-144 meet against Rhode Island at the Spiro Sports Center on Sunday.

On Sunday, Wagner won the 400 Free Relay, as senior Makenna Depuydt, junior Madeleine Delore, sophomore Judith Desforges, and graduate student Dorian McMenemy finished in 3:37.65.

Depuydt and sophomore Ellie Eastwood dominated the competition, earning three individual victories each. Depuydt won the 200 Free (1:55.73), 100 Free (53.17), and 50 Free (24.63), ahead of McMenemy (25.05) and Desforges (25.59).

Eastwood took first place in the 100 Breast (1:08.13), while touching first in the 200 IM (2:11.55) ahead of freshman Maile Mora (2:12.30), and also earning a first-place finish in the 200 Breast (2:26.68) ahead of freshman Frederikke Mertins (2:27.57).

Freshman Raquel Reyes took second in the 1000 Free (1:51.72) and 200 Fly (2:11.27) while Mora added a second-place finish in the 200 IM (2:12.30)

On Saturday against NYU, Depuydt also won the 50 Free in 24.62, while Reyes took first in the 200 Fly (2:10.24).

The 200 Free Relay, consisting of Depuydt, Desforges, McMenemy, and Muro touched first in 1:38.04, while Mertins took first in the 200 Breast (2:26.69).

Next up, the Seahawks will host LIU for their senior meet on January 25 at 1:00 PM at the Spiro Sports Center.
