In Brief: Rice captured 11 of 12 individual swimming events as well as both relays as the Owls raced past North Texas 174.5-118.5 on Senior Day at the Rice Competition Pool on Saturday.

The Details: The dual was moved back two hours from its original 11 a.m. start time due to the cold weather in Houston.  Prior to the first race of the day, the Owls celebrated the seven members of their senior class (Sierra BakerMarta Cano-MinarroBecca EvansRocio Gonzalez-Espresati ClementShannon JelleyPhillis Range, and Erin Vance). Minnaro was one of five Owls to pick up a pair of individual wins, taking the 200 butterfly and the 100 freestyle. Zoe Spitz (a sweep of the backstroke events). Lauren McDougall, (200 and 500 freestyles), Amelia Kane (1000 free and 400 IM), and Arielle Hayon (50 free and 100 backstroke) joined Minarro with a pair of wins while Megan Shultze added a win in the 200 breaststroke.  Hayon chipped in legs on both victorious relays, joining with Spitz, Sini Koivu and Becca Evans on the 200 medley relay and with Minarro, McDougall, and Evans on the final event of the day, the 400 freestyle relay.

Up Next: The Owls will travel to San Antonio next Friday to take on Incarnate Word and TCU in a dual meet at 5 p.m. Friday at UIW’s Ann Barshop Natatorium.
