RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond swimming and diving head coach Matt Barany announced the hiring of Caleb Lawrence to be the new assistant swim coach. Lawrence joins the Spiders after spending the past two seasons with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Prior to his time in South Bend, He worked for two seasons with the TAC Titans in North Carolina.
“I am excited to add Caleb to the program.” said Barany, “He has high-level experience with elite swimmers. His experience at Notre Dame is very relevant to the type of students we attract at Richmond. I am excited for his contributions towards our recruiting efforts and towards the development of the current team. I am eager for the women to meet Caleb.”
“Although we still feel the weight of COVID, I am confident that we can continue to make sound decisions when it comes to our health and our training.” Barany continued, “I look forward to working with our new staff to build another memorable season.”
At Notre Dame, he assisted the coaching staff that helped produce five individual conference championship swims, multiple podium finishes at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships and 30 CSCAA All-Americans. He also helped guide Jack Hoagland to an ACC Freshman of the Year award during the 2019-20 season.
With the Titans, Lawrence coached the senior aged and the 11-12 year-old athletes. He helped lead the Titans to the 2017 North Carolina Short and Long Course Age Group Champions.
“I am thrilled to be joining coach Barany at the University of Richmond, where I can continue to work with an incredibly bright group of student-athletes.” Lawrence said, “Matt has built a perennially successful program within the Atlantic 10 Conference, and I can’t wait to help the program continue to move forward under his guidance.”
