Philadelphia— The University of Richmond Spiders swimming and diving program picked up two wins in a double dual against La Salle and Fairfield Saturday at La Salle University’s Kirk Pool. The Spiders won seven events en route to downing La Salle 157-138, and Fairfield 204-94. Full results can be found here.
Richmond won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.36 behind the efforts of Katelyn Pennell (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Sara Greene (Tega Kay, S.C.), Abby Fuller (Charlottesville, Va.) and Lauren Medlin (Cary, N.C.). The Spiders also picked up third in the event after Mattie Williams (Lake George, N.Y.), Christina Levins (Moorestown, N.J.), Claire O’Shaughnessy (Laurel, Md.) and Lucy Yeomans (Athens, Ga.) clocked a 1:50.83.
Fuller took the top spot in the 100 free, touching at 58.01, and finished in the runner-up spot in the 100 fly with a 58.87.
The Spiders went 1-2 in the 1,000-yard free with Alexa Connors (Kingston, Mass.) (10:38.61) and Grace Palfreyman (Bridgewater, N.J) (10:51.17). Meanwhile, O’Shaughnessy went on to finish second in the 200 free with a 1:57.84 clocking, while Yeomans followed close behind for third with a time of 1:58.81.
Pennell took second in the 100 back with a time of 59.37 and Carstyn Klosterman (Winston-Salem, N.C.) clocked a 59.94 for third. Klosterman also took home bronze in the 200 back with a 2:08.85 clocking.
Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.) (1:06.50), and Greene (1:07.88) took the first two spots in the 100 breast, as did Medlin (24.36) and Purcell (24.89) in the 50 free. Purcell also took home first in the 200 breast (2:24.41) while Levins followed in second with a (2:29.22).
On the 1-meter board, Emma Yeakley (Cornelius, N.C.) took third with a score of 206.70.
Connors and O’Shaughnessy went 1-3 in the 500 free with times of 5:07.64 and 5:11.58, respectively.
Jenna Miller (Annapolis, Md.) clocked a 2:13.75 for second in the 200 IM.
Richmond finished first and second in the 400 free relay with Fuller, Connors, Yeomans and Pennell crossing first at 3:34.75 and the squad of Purcell, Medlin, O’Shaughnessy and Palfreyman (3:35.17) followed for second.
The Spiders are back home at the Robins Center Natatorium on Jan. 28 when the team takes on James Madison.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Fairfield University men’s swimming and diving team earned its fourth straight victory with its 154-147 decision over La Salle University on Saturday afternoon. The Stags improved to 4-1 overall and have won all three of their non-conference meets.
Joseph Stewart paced Fairfield with two wins in the meet, taking the top spot in the 200 free by finishing the event with a time of 1:44.86. He followed up with a first-place run in the 500 free by touching the wall after completing the distance in 4:49.01, six seconds better than the runner up. Ed Hunt earned the top spot in the 1000 free with his 10-second victory, registering a time of 9:55.79. He also garnered second in the 200 IM (1:56.78) with Hans Lim (2:01.10) and Jeffrey Vlass (2:03.22) were next in line.
Alex Belfer also collected a first-place finish in the 50 free, logging a time of 21.31, while Vlass was the winner in the 200 breast, courtesy of his 2:13.70 time. Dillon O’Connor enjoyed a solid day with his top score of 298.47 in the 1 meter dive while Lukas Stanton collected third-place finishes in the 1 meter (204.45) and the 3 meter (221.25). Evan Fair rounded out Fairfield’s first-place results with his performance in the 100 fly (53.11), which he complemented with a second-place run in the 200 back (1:58.02).
Both relay teams took second in their respective races with the 200 medley foursome completing the course in 1:35.07 and the 400 free squad finishing in 3:10.49. The 200 relay team was comprised by Will Robinson, Chris Ford, Fair, and Belfer, while the 400 relay team consisted of Stewart, Fair, Peter Gori, and Belfer.
The Stags are scheduled to compete in a pair of dual meets next weekend when they travel to Manhattan College on Friday, January 21 at 4 pm before hosting Iona College on Saturday, January 22 at 1 pm.

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle swimming & diving kicked off their 2022 slate on Saturday afternoon, as the women beat Fairfield 209-90 while falling to Richmond, 157-138 in a tri-meet. On the men’s side, the Explorers lost to Fairfield by a final of 153-147.
HOW THE MEN FINISHED:
- The Explorers were victorious in both relays on Saturday, as Alex Kuriawa, Zachary Wolbert, Trenton Burr, and Zack Miller started their meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay.
- This same group closed the meet with another relay victory, this time placing first in the 400-yard free relay.
- Wolbert added his seventh and eighth wins of his campaign, placing first in both the 200-yard fly and the 200-yard IM.
- Burr also notched a pair of victories, winning the 100-yard back as well as the 200-yard back.
- Jason Rosales and Miller added solo wins as well, as Rosales placed first in the 100-yard breast while Miller was the top finisher in the 100-yard free.
- Sam Henninger lead the La Salle divers with a first-place finish, his fifth of the season, in the three-meter dive with a score of 273.37.
HOW THE WOMEN FINISHED:
- Sara Rizzetto’s standout season continued on Saturday, as she tallied her ninth and 10th individual wins in the 200-yard free and the 200-yard back.
- Sam Boyes matched Rizzetto with two wins of her own, placing first in both the 100-yard fly and the and the 200-yard fly.
- Anne Moser added her fourth victory of the season, pacing the field in the 1000-yard free.
- Phoebe Shaya’s dominant diving run continued, as she again swept both the three-meter and one-meter dives for the Explorers, good for her seventh and eighth wins of the campaign.

The Explorers will be back at Kirk Pool on Saturday, Jan. 22 when they take on Fordham. The meet will be senior day for La Salle, as well as the gold rush t-shirt giveaway game for students.
