Rider Men Defeat Marist 13th Straight Time, Women Complete Sweep

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University men’s swimming and diving team defeated visiting Marist, 181-114, at the newly renovated Coppola Pool on Saturday afternoon.

The Broncs (2-1) defeated the Red Foxes for the 13th straight time.

Rider had a big day, winning 13 events, including both diving events.

Junior Dillon Walles (The Woodlands, TX/The Woodlands High School) continued his dominant start to the season. It marked the fourth straight appearance in which he won both the 1M and 3M diving events. Walles posted a score of 300.37 in the 1M and he had a mark of 296.93 in the 3M.

Senior Justin Carey (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) was strong in the pool for Rider once again, winning three individual races. He came in first-place in the 100 back (48.80), 100 free (45.63) and the 100 fly (48.53).

Freshmen Lucas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross High School) and Matt Lequang (Plainsboro, NJ/Notre Dame) each won two events on Satuday. Racevicius was the top finisher in the 200 free (1:41.81) and the 200 back (1:49.74), while Lequang won the 1,000 free (9:43.52) and the 500 free (4:42.93).

The other three Broncs to win were Andrew Iannacone (Yardley, PA/Holy Ghost Prep), Joe Gewartowski (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) and David Cooper (Spring, TX/Klein Oak). Iannacone took the 100 breast with a time of 59.24, Gewartowski finished first in the 50 free at 21.05 and Cooper won the 200 breast thanks to touching at 2:11.04.

NOTES
– The Rider 200 medley relay quartet of Justin CareyAndrew IannaconeDaniel Bonge and Matt Lequang won with a time of 1:33.35.
– Cole May finished second in both the 200 fly (1:55.53) and the 100 fly (51.34).
– Andrew Iannacone was also second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:13.31.
– David Rucci was second in both the 100 back (51.61) and the 200 back (1:55.25).
– Kyle Iorizzo came in second-place in the 1,00 free with a time of 9:45.48.
– David Cooper added a second-place result in the 100 breast thanks to touching at 59.30.

– Rider returns to action next Saturday, November 9, with a tri-meet against La Salle and Delaware in Philadelphia.

LAWRENCEVILLE, New Jersey – Marist men’s swimming and diving was defeated 181-114 by the Rider Broncs on Saturday afternoon. The defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champion Broncs were a force to be reckoned with today, giving the Red Foxes trouble through the entire meet. The loss was just the first of the season for the Marist men’s squad, as they are now 2-1 on the year, with a 1-1 mark against conference foes.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The men opened the competition with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Sean DoranMason ArnbergPavel Makarchuk, and Ethan McCormac clocked in at 1:38.36
  • The Red Foxes earned their first victory of the day in the 200-yard fly, when Adam Kapusta clocked in at 1:54.73 in first place.
  • Kapusta was the leading scorer on the day for the men, totaling 17 points. Besides the 200-fly, he also finished second on the 200-yard free and the 500-yard free. His squad also came in first place in the 400-yard Free Relay.
  • Ahmed Sallam had a nice day in individual events, totaling 10 points. He placed second in both the 50-yard free and the 100-yard free, with times of 21.47 and 47.06, respectively.
  • Raislan Aiken came in second place in both diving evets, totaling 281.32 points in the 3-meter dive and 277.80 points in the 1-meter dive.
  • The men’s squad finished strong, taking first, second, and third place in the 400-yard free relay A team consisting of Ante Dany, Salam, McCormac, and Kapusta clocked in at first place with a time of 3:07.29.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women’s swimming and diving team defeated visiting Marist, 157.5-142.5, on Saturday afternoon at the newly renovated Coppola Pool.

The Broncs (1-2) picked up their first dual-meet win of the season thanks to winning 10 events, including both relays.

Sophomores Kylie McMahon (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary’s) and Kayla May (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) each won three individual events for Rider in the victory over the Red Foxes.

McMahon came in first-place in the 200 IM (2:11.11), the 100 fly (57.24) and the 200 fly (2:08.38). May won the 200 free with a time of 1:56.10. She also was the top-finisher in the 100 back (59.20) and the 200 back (2:07.36).

Olivia Iswalt (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) was the other Bronc swimmer to win. Iswalt came in first-place in both the 50 free (24.36) and the 100 free (54.07).

NOTES
– In the diving events, Meg Tomayko finished second in both the 1M and 3M. She posted a score of 240.82 in the 1M and 225.83 in the 3M.
– Freshman Maddie McSorley finished second in both the 100 fly (58.34) and the 200 fly (2:10.33).
– Brianna Hatzold finished second in the 100 free with a time of 55.73.
– Jessica Homitz was second in the 50 free thanks to touching at 25.17.
– Maeve Lersch was second in the 100 back with a time of 59.96.
– The Rider 200 medley relay of Kayla MayKellie QuinnKylie McMahon and Olivia Iswalt won with a time of 1:47.81.
– The Bronc 400 free relay quartet of Maeve LerschMaddie McSorleyBrianna Hatzold and Olivia Iswalt won with a time of 3:38.41.

LAWRENCEVILLE, New Jersey – Marist women’s swimming and diving was defeated 157.5-142.5 by the Rider Broncs on Saturday afternoon. It was a very tightly contested meet all the way through, as the Red Foxes trailed by just 10 points heading into the final event. Rider was able to secure first place in the 400-yard medley relay, clinching the victory for the women. The Red Foxes are now 1-2 on the year, with a 1-1 mark against conference foes.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The women opened the event with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Juliet NowakGeorgeanne ZimmermanLeigh-Anne Zanella, and Molly Hewett clocked in with a time of 1:51.43.
  • In the first individual event of the day, the Red Foxes finished first, second, and third. Heather Hartmann clocked in at first place with a time of 10:33.19. She was followed up by Sidney Judson and Kimberly Chan.
  • Judson had a great day, finishing with 16 total points, a high for all Marist swimmers. She finished in first place in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:14.14. She also came in second in the1000-yard free and third in the 200-yard free.
  • Esabelle Gervasio, the reigning MAAC Diver of the Week, had another outstanding competition for Marist. She won the 1-meter dive with a score of 230.77, and then took first in the 3-meter dive later on in the competition with a score of 267.60. She had 18 points on the day. Her performance quallified her for the Eastern Zone Championship
  • Zimmerman had an impressive day in the pool for Marist, totaling 13 points. She came in first in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breast, with times of 1:09.04 and 2:31.17, respectively.

 

UP NEXT

The Red Foxes have next week off, and will return to McCann Natatorium on Friday. November 15 for their second home dual meet of the season. Marist will host non-conference foe Colgate at 5 p.m.
