Rikako Ikee Clocks Yet Another JPN Nat Record – 24.21 50 Free (Video)

2018 JAPAN SWIM (JAPANESE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS)

17-year-old Rikako Ikee lowered another one of her Japanese national records while competing at the 2018 Japan Swim. Tonight during the 4th final session of the meet, Ikee fired off the fastest 50m freestyle time ever clocked by a woman from her nation, registering a winning mark of 24.21 to take gold in front of a roaring crowd.

You can watch the race video below where the star wins the splash n’ dash by over a second ahead of the field:

Prior to this meet, Ikee’s personal best and previous national record stood at the 24.33 earned at the National Sports Festival of Japan last September. That mark still stands as the World Junior Record. If Ikee wasn’t turning 18 by the end of this year, tonight’s result would replace that as the new WJR.

However, Ikee’s time now checks her in as the 3rd fastest 50m freestyler this season, barring any results from tonight’s semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games.

Seriously looks like she was finalist in the 50 free at last worlds in Budapest.
I didn’t know her. Or I have forgotten.
With all the Xiang, Yang or Xie it’s tough to remember who is who. 🙂

She has a PB of 24.04, nothing to scoff at. (Though done in China, so grain of salt, sadly)

She will have a lot of pressure in 2 years at home. Can she handle it? Because on pure talent she has everything to shine.
