Rio Olympics from an Athlete’s Perspective with Calvyn Justus (Video)

We have traveled with Swimming South Africa’s resident vlogger Calvyn Justus to FINA World Cup Meets in Doha and Dubai, then through Olympic team training camp in Florida, where we met the rest of the South African team. We even laughed along with his Most Annoying Types of Swimmers.

Now, Justus is bringing us along on his Rio 2016 Olympic experience, and we couldn’t be happier for it.

In the above video, Justus takes us through his seven days in Rio. You get to see the Olympic Village, the competition pool, the Parade of Nations, the warm up pool, and more, all from the perspective of an Olympic swimmer.

There are also short cameos from other members of the South African team, including Cameron van der Burgh (and his 100 breast silver medal), Sebastien Rousseau, and Douglas Erasmus

Justus swam the third leg of the South African men’s 4 x 200m free relay. The team ended up 10th overall with 7:12.61, missing the final. You can see their splits below:

  • Myles Brown: 1:46.47
  • Sebastein Rousseau: 1:48.35
  • Calvyn Justus: 1:49.04
  • Dylan Bosch: 1:48.75

Thanks Calvyn for sharing your experience from the athletes perspective. I got to be there to watch my son David Plummer swim and it was a great experience, best wishes to you as you train for 2020!

David Plummer is a hero. Never quit on himself after being so close so many times.

Someone all swimmers should look up to. I’m a fan.

I like the videos from Justice. This one in particular gave you a perspective of the venue and it’s surrounding areas that I hadn’t seen during the coverage. The free swag from Samsung was cool. Not all these athletes are rich and that probably meant a lot to them.
