PERNILLE BLUME HOLDS ON TO WIN THE WOMEN’S 50m FREESTYLE

Pernille Blume of Denmark won the women’s 50m freestyle in a new Danish record, breaking the record for the third time these games. At the wall she was a 24.07 to win by two one-hundredths of a second ahead of Simone Manuel of the USA.

GREGORIO PALTRINIERI BECOMES FIRST ITALIAN TO WIN 1500m FREESTYLE EVER

Italian Gregorio Paltrinieri became the first man from Italy to medal in the men’s 1500m freestyle, doing so in gold medal fashion with a time of 14:34.57. Third was his Italian teammate Gabriele Detti in 14:40.86.

AMERICAN WOMEN HOLD ON FOR GOLD IN 4×100 MEDLEY RELAY

The American women absolutely dominated the world in the 4x100m medley relay, taking down the top countries by almost two full seconds. The USA won in 3:53.13, Australia was second, Denmark was third. Medal hopes China and Canada were off the podium.

RYAN MURPHY BREAKS 100 BACK WORLD RECORD TO HELP ESTABLISH AMERICAN GOLD IN MICHAEL PHELPS LAST SWIM

Ryan Murphy led off the Americans in the 4x100m medley relay in world record fashion, taking down Aaron Peirsol’s famed backstroke mark of 51.94 with a 51.85. He handed things off to Cody Miller. After Miller, Michael Phelps dove in for his final race of his career. The Americans won in an Olympic record giving Phelps is 23rd Olympic gold and sending off the GOAT on top once again.
