NATHAN ADRIAN REBOUNDS TO TOP SEED
After barely making it back for the semifinals of the men’s 100m freestyle Nathan Adrian made a statement from the outside lane, coming home in a time of 47.83 in order to take the top seed heading into tomorrow’s final. Adrian will get the chance to repeat his Olympic gold from 2012 in the middle lane.
KATIE LEDECKY CONTINUES WINNING STREAK, TAKES DOWN SJOSTROM
After Sarah Sjostrom beat Katie Ledecky in their semifinal it didn’t look as though Ledecky would be able to continue her streak of never losing an individual event in an international final. Despite the odds, Ledecky fought down the stretch with a huge last 10-meters to take the gold in 1:53.73. Sjostrom was second in 1:54.08.
MICHAEL PHELPS TAKES BACK THE 200m BUTTERFLY
The heated rematch of Michael Phelps and Chad le Clos was one of the most anticipated events of the 2016 Olympic Games. Phelps would not lose, taking things out ahead of the field and holding on to win his 20th Olympic gold with a time of 1:53.36. Phelps now has four individual medals in the 200 fly.
MADELINE GROVES LOOKS TO LEAD
Australia’s Madeline Groves topped the field in the 200m butterfly tonight, clocking in at 2:05.66 to set herself up for a medal in tomorrow’s final. Spain’s Mireia Belmonte Garcia was the closest to her, almost a full second behind.
KATINKA HOSSZU WINS GOLD NUMBER THREE
Although she didn’t break her own world record, Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu won her third gold medal of these Olympic Games. Hosszu won the gold in 2:06.58, just beating Siobhan-Marie O’Connor by three-tenths of a second.
AMERICA TAKES BACK THE 4×200 FREE RELAY
After the Americans lost the 4x200m freestyle relay to the British at the world championships last year, this was one they wanted to get back. They prevailed, taking the gold in a time of 7:00.66 and putting a scare on the world record. Phelps earned his 21st Olympic gold in the race.
