On each day of the official Olympic torch relay, carrying the Olympic flame to the Olympic cauldron in Rio de Janeiro, the Rio2016 Facbeook page is posting brilliant and spectacular images from one of the world’s unique and most beautiful landscapes. Each day until August 5th, we will bring you these stunning images.
*Note: On day 77 Rio 2016 reported the torch travelled through these five cities, and we reported so. That was a mistake, and the torch went through four different cities on day 77 and these on day 78. It has been updated accordingly.
On the 78h day of the torch relay the torch hit five different cities in the state of São Paulo, beginning in Sertãozinho and finishing up in Franca, just over 100 km north.
Sertãozinho is one of the highest ranked cities in Brazil for quality of life and has the only active railroad in the state. It is home to over 120,000. The torch then went to the city of Jaboticabal, home to 75,000 and known for producing the most peanuts in Brazil.
The torch then went to the city of Bebedouro, which is related to the word ‘Beber’ (meaning drink in english). It was a stop place for travellers who worked on farms and had cows and such things. It has a population of 75,000. The torch then went to Barretos, famous for hosting the biggest rodeo festival in the country each year, before finally heading to Franca. Franca is home to over 340,000 people and is an important center in the footwear industry within the country.
