On each day of the official Olympic torch relay, carrying the Olympic flame to the Olympic cauldron in Rio de Janeiro, the Rio2016 Facbeook page is posting brilliant and spectacular images from one of the world’s unique and most beautiful landscapes. Each day until August 5th, we will bring you these stunning images.
On the 83rd day of the torch relay the torch explored the city of São Paulo, the capital city of the namesake state.
São Paulo is the most populous city in Brazil, the Americas and in the Southern Hemisphere and the 12th largest city on Earth proper by population. The metropolitan area of Greater São Paulo is the 11th largest on Earth. With the largest economy by GDP in Latin America, it is home to the São Paulo Stock Exchange and has the 10th highest GDP in the world. It represents 10.7% of Brazil’s GDP.
Some of the torch bearers on day 83 included former boxer Eder Jofre, skateboarder Bob Burnquist and archer Marcus Vinicius D’Almeida.
Jofer was an Olympic boxer at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne and is a native of São Paulo. Jofre has an all-time records of 72-2-4, including 50 wins by KO (knockout). He is ranked 85th in Ring Magazine’s 100 Greatest Punchers of All-Time list.

Burnquist has 29 medals, including 14 gold, from the Summer X Games spanning from 1997 to 2015. Burnquist holds dual citizenship with Brazil and the United States and now resides in the U.S.
Marcus Vinicius D’Almeida is set to be a first-time Olympian this summer in archery. D’Almeida began competing internationally three years ago when he was just 15, winning three gold medals at the South American Games in 2013 and 2014. He qualified for the 2014 World Cup Final, ultimately finishing 2nd. He won silver at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, where he was Brazil’s flagbearer. His rise to the top of the sport at such a young age has gotten him the nickname “Archery’s Neymar”.
