The final day of the 2024 Summer Sectionals meet in Westmont, IL so more great racing. The men’s 1500 free went to Aquajets Swim Team 17-year-old Jiarui Xue, who finished in 15:57.10. Xue, a Princeton recruit, has been quite a bit faster, holding a personal best of 15:38.14, which he swam at the NCSA Championships in March. Ozaukee Aquatics 14-year-old Grant Freeze had a fantastic swim for 4th in the mile, clocking a 16:13.24, which marks a new personal best by nearly 24 seconds.

The women’s 200 IM saw Louisville’s Summer Cardwell claim victory in 2:17.57, narrowly touching out teammate Kim Herkle (2:17.68). That swim comes in just a hair off Cardwell’s personal best of 2:17.43, which she swam back in 2022. Meanwhile, Herkle has been as fast as 2:14.10 in her career.

After winning the men’s 100 breast and 200 breast earlier in the meet, RISE Aquatic Club 18-year-old Colin Zhang took the men’s 200 IM in 2:04.41 on the final night of the meet. Zhang, a rising first year at Penn, came into the meet with a personal best of 2:08.53, marking a huge 4.12-second improvement over that time with his finals swim. He was particularly strong on the breaststroke leg, where he split a 34.33.

Wisconsin’s Hailey Tierney and Michigan’s Abbey Ketslakh tied for 1st in the women’s 50 free, each stopping the clock in 25.92. Tierney holds a career best of 25.35, which she swam at last summer’s Junior Nationals, while Ketslakh’s performance marked her first time under 26 seconds in the event. Her previous best of 26.14 was set just a few weeks ago at the Eric Namesnik Memorial Invite.

Schroeder Y’s Sam Lorenz won the men’s 50 free in 22.92, chipping 0.03 seconds off his personal best in the event. Lorenz is a rising freshman at Wisconsin.
