ITHACA, N.Y. – The Liberty League Swimming and Diving Championships kicked off Wednesday at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium at Ithaca College with five men’s events and four women’s events. One meet record fell on the first night of the championship.

Highlights from Wednesday’s championship action:
MEN
- RPI captured the first two individual events of the championship. Senior Trevor Maxwell won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:35.95 while freshman Aleksey Makarov earned a victory in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:52.89.
- Ithaca junior Stan Zaneski was a repeat champion in the 50-yard freestyle, winning the event in 20.57 seconds. Zaneski had set the championship record last year, recording a time of 20.55 in the prelims. His winning time in 2019 was also 20.57.
- Ithaca freshman Ethan Godfrey won the 3-meter diving event, capturing his first Liberty League title with 531.65 points. Godfrey defeated teammate Justin Moczynski (484.55), who finished second, by 47.10 points.
- The Ithaca 200-yard medley relay team consisting sophomore Tim Hector, senior Andrew Mikhailichenko, senior Nate Bartalo and Zaneski set a championship and association record with a winning time of 1:31.89. The Bombers shaved more than a second off the previous meet record of 1:32.92 set by RPI last year.
WOMEN
- Ithaca captured two of the three individual events. Junior Morgan Hoffman-Smith won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:08.69, beating Vassar junior Angharad Healey (5:11.18) by more than two seconds. Ithaca senior Paige Landers captured her first Liberty League championship, winning a tight 50-yard freestyle final in 24.20. The top six finishers in the 50-free finished within .40 seconds.
- RIT first-year swimmer Khavy Sangasy swam to victory in a strong field in the 200-yard individual medley, recording a winning time of 2:06.45. Sangasy was one of four freshmen in the final.
- RPI won the first relay of the meet, capturing the 200-yard medley relay in 1:46.37. The Engineer team of sophomore Megan Beaulieu, freshman Ola Nawrocki, freshman Alyssa Cahill and junior Emily Mayoras defeated runner-up RIT by .07 seconds.
