On November 3, 2017, the Robson and Lindley Aquatic Center was opened for the SMU men’s and women’s swimming programs. But just how much did this really mean to both teams?
There had been talk of SMU building a new aquatic facility for decades, dating back to 1978 when there was an artistic rendition of the new facility in meet guides that season. However, when their legendary Perkins Natatorium was closed in 2013, things really became urgent as the team was forced to put a tent over their outdoor, 50-meter pool in the winter to practice in until they built the new one.
4 years later, endless phone calls and outreach attempts to alumni, and $22,000,000 in fundraising later, SMU is proud to say they’re out of the tent. Head coaches Eddie Sinnott and Steve Collins agree that Robson and Lindley will be a wonderful place to call home, both for the current team as well as future of both programs.
