Rocks and Blocks: Come Curling with SwimSwam at Women’s NCAA Championships

At this year’s SEC Championships, one of the parents of the A&M women swimmers (Al Bosma, if you’re curious) arranged for their parents to go on a brewery tour in Athens, Georgia during the meet as sort of a ‘parents social’ event.

This year’s NCAA Championship meet is in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the Aggie parents had such a good time in Athens that they wanted to try again in Minneapolis. And with the Winter Olympics and Paralympics having just wrapped up, and Minneapolis being cold all week, the choice was obvious.

Curling.

In the spirit of friendly competition, Brian Henry reached out to SwimSwam to see about ideas for getting other parents from other teams involved, and perhaps come up with some friendly competition. Aggies versus Longhorns? Texas parents – you’ve been called out. SEC versus Pac-12? Pac-12 parents, you’ve been called out as well.

SO! Here’s the deal. Grab yourself and three of your closest friends, and join us for “Rocks and Blocks” curling at the Fogerty Ice Arena on Friday, March 21st from 3-5 PM. Don’t have three friends? That’s fine, just bring yourself, and make some friends! We’ll put together some teams for bragging rights, and of course the old curling tradition – the winning team buys beers for the losing team.

The facility has a full restaurant, and 3-5 will see happy hour pricing. The 28,000 square foot dedicated curling arena is brand new, and is home to high-level, Olympic Trials caliber curlers (including Regan Mizuno, who helped us put this event together) – so the experience should be fantastic.

Details:

  • What: Curling at the Fogerty Ice Arena
  • When: Meet at the Minnesota Aquatics Center at 2:00 for a 2:15 departure. Planned return will allow plenty of time for 7PM start time for finals.
  • Cost: $35 per person. This includes all curling equipment, instruction, ice time, and bus transport to and from the arena.
  • Availability: We’ve got room for about 26 more participants.
  • How to sign up: Shoot us an email to [email protected] with your name, cell phone number, and how many participants you’ll have.
  • How to pay: Please bring cash or a check made out to SwimSwam. If for some reason there’s any extra money (which we’re not expecting), we’ll pass it along to charity.
  • Questions? [email protected], and we’ll do our best to answer them.
  • Address: 9250 Lincoln St NE, Blaine, MN 55434

Looking forward to the event, and can’t wait to some fast swimming and some intense curling this weekend!
