Rockville-Montgomery 10 & Unders Break NAG Relay Record

Late last year, the Rockville-Montgomery Swim Club’s (RMSC) female 9-10s took their shot at the National Age Group Record book, clearing both the 200 yard medley and 200 yard free relay records (the only two relay records available to 10 & unders) – though those swims have not yet been ratified by USA Swimming

Last week, anchored by a set of twins, the RMSC boys took a record run of their own, swimming a 2:18.29 in the 200 medley relay (in long course meters) at the Potomac Valley Swimming Age Group Championships.

Swimmers/Splits:

• Ashton Sun – 35.14 (backstroke)
• Harrison Quach – 39.09 (breaststroke)
• Nasim Elkassem – 34.03 (fly)
• Samir Elkassem – 30.03 (free)

The swim broke the old record of 2:18.89 done in 2012 by a group from the Cincinnati Marlins that included 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier Carson Foster. That relay was noteworthy in that Foster’s butterfly leg was actually faster than his freestyle anchor’s split.

The twin brothers are both coached by Kent Williams at the Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center site; Sun trains at the Rockville location under Dave Greene; and Harrison Quach trains at the Martin Luther King Jr. site with Brian Cheng.
