Romanian Team Ready for SC World Championships

The Romanian Swimming & Modern Pentathalon Federation, or Federatia Romana de Natatie si Pentatlon Modern (FRNPM), will be represented by three swimmers at the Short Course World Championships in Windsor, Canada. The trio includes Robert Glinta, Norbert Trandafir, and Bogdan Scarlat. Romania will not have any women at the meet.

Glinta is the current junior world record holder in the short course 100m backstroke with a time of 50.77. He is also the youngest member of the team at just 19 years old. Scarlat took first place in the men’s 1500m freestyle at this year’s Romanian National Championships in a time of 15:23.63, finishing 36 seconds before his next-fastest competitor. Trandafir is the most experienced member of the team, having swum at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He also holds three Romanian records: the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, and 50m butterfly.

Romania has won 6 medals at the Short Course World Championships in its history, including a relay bronze in 1995 to begin a golden era of sorts for Romanian swimming.

The meet will take place on December 6-11.
