At the 2017 Rose Bowl Aquatics Long Course Meet last weekend, 12-year-old phenom Ronald Dalmacio scorched all 3 of the long course 11-12 backstroke National Age Group Records. Dalmacio, who became the youngest swimmer ever to break 1:00 in the long course 100 back earlier this season, lowered his own record even further this weekend with a 59.54.
He also lowered his own NAG Record i nthe 50 back, taking it from a 27.88 down to a 27.45.
Dalmacio’s 11-12 NAG Records From Last Weekend:
- 50 meter back- 27.45
- 100 meter back- 59.54
- 200 meter back- 2:10.01
This weekend was the first time he took down the 11-12 NAG Record in the 200 back, giving him the complete set. Dalmacio dropped almost 5 seconds from his best time, chopping it down from a 2:14.79 to a 2:10.01. With that, he broke the former record of 2:10.39 set by Destin Lasco in 2014 and narrowly missed become the first 11-12 swimmer to break 2:10 in the 200 back.
In addition to his backstroke records, Dalmacio also came within a tenth of Winn Aung‘s NAG Record of 55.03 in the 100 free after swimming a personal best 55.13. He also closed in on Michael Andrew‘s NAG Record of 25.09 in the 50 free, as he swam a personal best 25.24 last weekend.
I am so glad that I retired in 1968.
