Roque Santos, USA engine behind Engine Swimwear

Roque Santos knows and loves swimming. With nearly 35 years of experience in the sport, from the elite-level to coaching to working in the apparel industry, he’s lived it and seen it all, upclose and personal.

Roque’s a friend and a teammate from the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, but you can’t sum-up his career by simply stating he was an Olympian. At UC Berkely, he was a two-year Cal Bear team captain and seven-time NCAA All-American. For over six years he traveled the world representing Team USA as an elite athlete, achieving world rankings, setting American and Olympic Trials records. Roque’s done it all, and his competitive career has continued into the masters ranks where he’s claimed 24 national titles and six World Records.

Beyond the pool, career-wise, the swimwear market was a natural fit for Roque, and he has worked with and/or launched many of the brands we see swimmers wearing today.

Roque is now the USA Director of Engine Swimwear in North America. Engine is an Australian based company, one obessed with swimming. Their only objective is to produce a product that is dynamic for athletes. Peformance is the end goal, and that’s exactly why Roque came onboard to headup their North American operations.

“Our only objective is to produce quality products that are dynamic for the swimming athlete. ENGINE is the heart and soul of everything our sport should be. Our sport creates great, quality people. ‘It’s Time’ a swimming brand embraces our lifestyle, our true swimming culture. I was/am an athlete, and my wife and children also compete.  We are developing that brand in the USA which will be synonymous with swimming, reflecting the best of the best…products I will proudly wear and be excited to get on the best swimmers on the planet.”

Roque will be at Winter Junior National Championship, December 6-8, at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He’ll do what he always does at elite competitions, talks with friends and listen to the coaches and athletes to find out what they want in a performance swimsuit and service his teams and swimmers.  Roque will have product with him, two of which you should try, the Engine Wingskin Armour and the Engine Dome Cap.

Andrew Lauterstein, 3-time Olympic Medalist, wears the “Wingskin Armour”

“Engine Dome Caps”

Roque’s been building his Engine Team in North America, and he’s already logged miles and months of work talking to coaches and elites swimmers, many of whom have tested and raced in Engine Armour. In fact, nearly a dozen Olympians with 23 Olympic medals between them, raced in Engine Armour at the 2012 Olympic Trials and/or USA Swimming Grand Prix competitions.
