OXFORD, Ohio – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program earned 20 event wins, sweeping Miami (OH) today inside Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

The men dominated the competition crushing the RedHawks 189-111, while the women prevailed 154-146.

Cincinnati began the day notching a second-place finish in the women’s 400-yard medley relay, the team of Grace GavinJoleigh CryeSonja Aarsvold and Sophie Curtis recorded a time of 3:45.26.

The team of Hunter GubenoBrogan RobinsonDrew Hawthorne and Jon Osa followed their lead by taking second place with a time of 3:19.06 also in the 400-yard medley relay.

Junior Will Claus represented the divers well by earning two event wins in the 1m (312.45) and 3m (325.50).

The Bearcats took control in the men’s 200-yard backstroke with Gubeno finishing first (1:48.85), Joseph Swain in second (1:51.08), Drew Harris in third (1:53.68) and Brennan Muramatsu in fourth (1:54.56).

The women had their way with the 1000-yard freestyle, taking the top three spots. Freshman Libby Michel grabbed the win (10:23.50) with junior Annabelle Young (10:30.61) and sophomore Ingrid Fretz (10:33.92) right behind her.

Senior Tommy Eaton and freshman Kyle Bumgardner led the way for the men with two event wins each.

After the break, Bumgardner shined in the 200-yard breaststroke, recording a new personal best time of 2:01.68 that earned him the win.

The women were led by freshman Julie Rose who shined in all three of her events. Rose finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.12 and second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.82) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.49).

Sophomores Lily Jones and Mia Hensley earned their first event wins of the season in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.19) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.86).

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Jessica Davis, Crye, Meghan Fleury and Kaylee Nagel solidified the win for the Lady Cats as they took home first place with a time of 1:33.03.

The Miami University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams fell short today against the University of Cincinnati. The women finished with 146 points while the men finished with 111 points.

How It Happened:

  • The day began with both the men’s and women’s 400-yard medley relay teams placing first. The women, Madeline PadavicSara Lahrach-SanchezMcKenzie Reid and Nicole Maier, finished with a combined time of 3:43.51. The men, Owen BlazerAdrian DulayHenju Duvenhage and Ian Ian Kmiliauskis finished with a combined time of 3:19.05.
  • Greta Kolbeck had multiple first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.33) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.45).
  • Other first-place finishers of the day were Bryce Menchhofer in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.82), Padavic in the 100-yard backstroke (55.69), Maier in the 200-yard IM (2:02.01) and Allen Cotton in the 200 yard IM (1:52.03).
  • Other top placements today came from Blazer in first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.20, alongside Mason Miller in third with a time of 51.26. Maier placed first again in the 50-yard freestyle (23.05), along with Honor Brodie-Foy in third (23.86).
  • The team had multiple other second-place finishes today with Lahrach-Sanchez in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.28), Mady Bachmeier in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.28), Julia Waechter in the 100-yard freestyle (51.47), Chrisna Bezuidenhout in the 200 yard backstroke (2:02.52) and Emma Schueler in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:23.12).
  • Others on the board were Cotton in second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:48.88 alongside Scott Spear in third with a time of 1:53.88. In the 100-yard freestyle, Kmiliauskis placed second with a time of 45.28, along with Jack Herczeg in third with a time of 45.92.
  • In the 100-yard butterfly, Brodie-Foy placed second (57.18) and Reid in third (57.34), and for the men Duvenhage took second (49.32) while Gabriel Perseguin-Dias took third (49.96).
  • For third-place finishes today, Yonatan Rosin took it in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:48.81), Dulay in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.01), Herczeg in the 50-yard freestyle (20.99) and Ben Eichberg in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.02).
  • For women’s diving events, Sydney Rice took first in both the 1-meter dive (284.25) and the 3-meter dive (315.83). Mia Meinhardt took third in the 1-meter dive totaling 263.70 points as well as second place in the 3-meter dive (259.88). Vivian Niekamp placed fourth in the 1-meter dive (258.23). Nora Kowalski placed third in the 3-meter dive as well finishing with 256.95 points.
  • For men’s diving, Jackson Miller placed third in the 1-meter dive (289.73), along with Victor Hearn in fourth (289.05). Miller also placed third in the 3-meter dive (309.45), with Hearn in fifth (290.85).
  • The meet concluded with the 200-yard freestyle relay where the women placed second with a team of Maier, Kaylin Herbet, Brodie-Foy and Padavic finishing in 1:33.45. The men came in first with a team of Herczeg, Perseguin-Dias, Kmiliauskis and Tegan Barrier finishing with a combined time of 1:23.43.

The women will next compete on Friday, Jan. 19 at Bowling Green at 1 p.m. The men will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20 alongside the women against Kenyon at 1 p.m. at home.
