Ross Murdoch awarded Nancy Riach Memorial Medal at 15th Scottish Swimming Awards

Scottish Swimming had its annual awards banquet on Friday night, with Commonwealth Games star Ross Murdoch getting the nation’s signature award.

Murdoch was honored with the Nancy Riach Memorial Medal, given to the athlete who best enhanced or upheld the prestige of Scottish Swimming over the year. Murdoch blasted to a gold medal in the 200 breast at the Commonwealth Games, rattling the world record in front of the home crowd. Between that swim, his 100 breast bronze and double silver medals at the European Championships, Murdoch was one of the top swimmers in all of Great Britain this season.

Hannah Miley was another winner of a major award, taking home the J.Y. Coutts Award for outstanding services to Scottish Swimming. Also honored was Erraid Davies, the 13-year-old who won a bronze medal at Commonwealths in the S9 100 breaststroke as the youngest swimmer in the entire meet. She won the WG Todd Cup, given to the Junior Female Athlete of the Year. Her male counterpart was Duncan Scott, the 17-year-old who was a part of Scotland’s silver medal-winning 4×200 free relay in Glasgow.
