Rowan Women, USMMA Men Lead After Day 1 Of Metropolitan Conference Champs

PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rowan University women’s swimming & diving team is in first place after one day at the Metropolitan Championships.  The three-day meet continues on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 22 and 23 at Rutgers University.

The 400 medley took first place in 3:51.63, which is a school record. Abigail BrousEmily KopchickDaria Mnich and Jordan McChesney made up the medley relay.  The 200 freestyle relay swam a winning and Rowan record time of 1:36.89 with Brous, Nicole HarmsElizabeth O’Brien and McChesney.  The previous marks were 3:51.82 in the 400 medley relay (February 2019) and 1:37.28 in the 200 freestyle relay (December 2019).

Veronica Alferez touched first (5:03.24) in the 500 freestyle and Carlee Timmins followed second (5:06.94).  Abigail Brous finished second (24.09) in the 50 free and Jordan McChesney was third (24.24).

Corinne Finkbinder totaled 446.64 points for first place in the one-meter diving.  Klaudia Rzotkiewicz came in third (346.94) and Naomi Amadoro was eighth (303.13).

In the 200 individual medley, Emily LaBenski took second place with a time of 2:09.70.  She broke the school record in the morning prelims with 2:09.55.  The previous mark was 2:10.41 by Stacey Rahter (December 2010). O’Brien finish third (2:12.06) in the 200 individual medley.

Lindsay Cave and Brianna Gutierrez were fifth (5:14.93) and sixth (5:16.75) in the 500 freestyle.  Bailey Howarth came in ninth (2:14.25) in the 200 individual medley while Lindsay Cave and Taylor DeGennaro were 11th (2:15.66) and 14th (2:16.24) respectively.

Megan Miller finished ninth (24.69) in the 50 free while Mnich and Kopchick were 11th (25.07) and 13th (25.18) respectively. Jordan Jones had a 13th place (5:23.72) in the 500 freestyle.

For more context w regards to men’s meet. USMMA is beating Rowan by 10 points after day 1. Couple of strong time trial swims (rowan 8free & tcnj 4Medley) between sessions.
