Women’s 50 Free- Prelims

The top nine swimmers of the women’s 50 free prelims came in under 26, but no one was quite able to break 25 and dip under the selection standard.

19-year-old 2014 Youth Olympics gold medalist in this event Rozaliya Nasretdinova has a definitive .33 second lead going into tonight. She will only need to drop .12 seconds to make the team.

Maria Kameneva and Daria Kartashova took the second and third seeds in 25.44, and 25.52, respectively. Russian record holder Elizaveta Bazarova of Tatarstan holds the fourth slot with 25.66.

Men’s 1500 Free- Prelims

Yaroslav Potapov scored the top seed in the men’s 1500 free, swimming the prelim in 15:26.92, in a definitive lead over second place. He will have to drop over 22 seconds to make the Olympic team tomorrow.

Ilya Druzhinin came in second, five and a half seconds behind Potapov in 15:32.34. Aleksandr Prokofev took the third seed in 15:38.88. Only ten seconds separated second from eighth seed.

Women’s 4 x 100 Medley- Prelims

The Russian national team scored the first seed in the women’s 4 x 100 medley relay, swimming the event in 4:05.38. Per FINA’s relay selection standards, the Russian women have already secured their spot in the women’s 4 x 100 medley in Rio, after finishing in 10th place in Kazan last summer. Their time this morning was only four seconds slower than the 2015 World Championships mark.

KHMAO finished second in 4:13.89, followed by Moscow in 4:14.64.

The Russian men’s 4 x 100 medley also has a safe spot in the Olympic prelims, after scoring 5th in the FINA World Championships last year.

This morning, the Moscow team took the top slot in 3:40.72, well ahead of Volgograd in 3:43.90 and Penza in 3:44.00. St. Petersburg has the fourth seed in 3:44.23.
