After the completion of the 2015 Russian Championships, the Russian Swimming Federation (RSF) has named 33 swimmers to their roster for the 2015 World Championships which will be held in the Russian city of Kazan.
Nineteen men and fourteen women make up the 33-swimmer roster.
Last summer at the European Championships the Russian’s didn’t have the results they expected. They had only one individual male medallist (Vlad Morozov), and one individual female medallist (Darla Ustinova). Most of their success came from the mixed relays and diving events.
Their men’s freestyle relays however, have been some of the best for years. Two members of last year’s European Championships silver 4×200 freestyle relay team are not on this year’s roster. Alexander Krasnykh and Aleksandr Sukhorukov are the only two returning. Danila Izotov will also likely be put on that relay however, granted his success in the individual event in the past.
As for the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay, all four swimmers who were on last year’s team will be competing in Kazan this summer.
One of the most interesting roster spots on the team is that of Yuliya Efimova. This will be Efimova’s first major competition since serving her doping suspension that ended this past February. Following Russian Nationals Efimova is now currently the top ranked female in both the 50 and 100 breaststrokes in the world. In the 200m breaststroke she’s currently ranked fifth globally.
