The final day of synchronized swimming (which was renamed ‘artistic swimming’ today) saw the Russian pair of Aleksandr Maltsev and Mikhaela Kalancha claim gold in the Mixed Duet Free final, giving the Russians their 7th gold of the competition.
The two compiled a score of 92.6000, edging out the Italian pair of Giorgio Minisini and Mariangela Perrupato (91.1000). Americans Bill May and Kanako Spendlove (88.7667) took 3rd to make the podium identical to the one in the Mixed Duet Technical, just with the Russians and Italians flip-flopped.
