Russum Sets Pool Record To Lead FGCU To Victory Over Georgia Southern

Libby Russum set the pool record in the 100 fly (56.71) in a 129-114 win for Florida Gulf Coast University swim and dive against Georgia Southern on Saturday in Statesboro, Georgia. The previous pool record was held by former Eagle Cassidy Fry.

Eagles relays continued their show of dominance with two more wins. This meet featured the 400 medley relay team of Alice Ulicka, Jenna GwinnLibby Russum, and Alexis Mishler touching first with a time of 3:54.48. The 400 free relay team of Mishler, Jasmin KrollEmma Bjoernholdt, and Mia Burke placed first with a time of 3:32.19.

Individual event winners scattered the meet results. Kroll swam her debut 1000 free taking home first with a time of 10:26.60 while also winning the 100 free (51.70). Mishler touched first in the 50 free (24.09), Rebecca Winn placed first in the 400 IM (4:36.04), and Ella Smith secured gold in the 100 breast (1:05.58).

Up next for the Green and Blue is a road trip to face cross-coast rival Florida International University. Following FIU will be senior day against the University of North Florida Feb. 2 and 3 with FIU divers coming on Feb. 3.

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern swimming and diving teams fell 129-114 in a close affair with the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Saturday, January 13, at the Recreation Activity Center in Statesboro.

“Today’s team mission was to honor our senior swimmers & divers through our efforts & energy – and what a way to celebrate with a competitive spirit against Florida Gulf Coast,” said head coach Allyson Sweeney. “With a handful of notable season-best performances, our student-athletes have successfully positioned themselves to carry momentum into our final competitions of the season.”

Georgia Southern earned victories in the 200 Yard Freestyle with Chiara Alberti posting a 1:53.13 final time, as well as a victory in the 100 Yard Backstroke with Emma Scruggs’ 58.40 final time. Zuri Clavo also earned the Eagles a victory in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a 5:08.09 final time.

In diving action, Karlee Wells had a clean sweep of both events, posting a 274.13 in the three meter dive, and posting a 284.33 in the one meter dive, her second-highest score at the one meter this season. Abby Ounsworth finished in second in the three meter dive with a score of 252.15, and Anya Weber placed second in the one meter dive with a score of 257.03.

UP NEXT
Georgia Southern will conclude the regular season at home with a meet against North Florida. The regular season finale is slated for January 27 at the RAC, with the meet set to begin at 11 a.m.
