PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers swimming & diving squad wrapped up its season-opening quad meet with LIU, Buffalo and Felician on Saturday afternoon at the Rutgers Aquatics Center winning 10 of the day’s the 13 events.
FROM THE POOL DECK
- Scarlet Knights took the top times in all six-morning swim events (400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back & 400 free relay) going 1-2-3 in the 200 free.
- In the afternoon, RU was first in four of the seven events contested. Rutgers placed first in the 1650 free, 200 back, 200 breast and 200 fly, while securing runner-up positions in the 100 free, 200 medley relay and on 3-meter.
- Newcomer Martyna Piesko led the Scarlet Knights with four victories capturing the top times in the 100 and 200 back, 100 fly and in anchoring the 400 free relay.
- Graduate transfer Rachel Kimmel had a trio of wins taking home the top spot in the 100 and 200 breast and 400 IM.
- On the boards, sophomore Holly Prasanto scored a new career mark and NCAA Zone qualifying score on 3-meter.
SPRINTS
- The 200 free had Rutgers go 1-2-3 with Alice Scarabelli leading the way in a time of 1:51.80 followed by Sofia Chichaikina with 1:51.95 and Madison Murtagh in 1:54.05.
- Rachel Kimmel and Tina Celik went 1-2 in both the 100 and 200 breast. The morning’s 100 breast had Kimmel lead the pack in 1:03.40 with Celik in second in 1:04.70. The afternoon’s 200 breast had Kimmel out in front in 2:17.03 with Celik hitting the wall next in 2:23.12.
- Kimmel also picked up her second individual medley victory of the meet in the morning session racing to a time of 4:31.60 in the 400 IM.
- Martyna Piesko earned her first victory of the day in the 100 fly in 56.43 and later in the morning clocked in at 55.95 in the 100 back. She earned her third victory of the meet in the afternoon with a win in the 200 back in 2:00.62
- Sofia Chichaikina wrapped up the day’s individual events taking first in the 100 fly in 2:02.27.
- Alice Scarabelli placed second in 51.84 in the 100 free, .81 seconds behind first place, while Julia Bartoszewicz claimed third posting 52.89.
DISTANCE
- Madison Murtagh and Cat Salladin led distance corps for the second-straight day. Murtagh won the 1650 free in 16:57.77 with Salladin the runner-up in 17:25.16.
RELAY
- The 400 free relay hit the pool in the morning as Sofia Chichaikina, Alice Scarabelli, Sofia Maksimova and Martyna Piesko came together for a first-place time of 3:27.72.
- Rutgers took second and third in the day’s final event – the 200 medley relay. Piesko, Rachel Kimmel, Maksimova and Chichaikina were edged out of first place by a half second collecting a time of 1:44.70. Scarabelli, Tina Celik, Viktoriia Kostromina, and Julia Bartoszewicz, meanwhile, placed third in 1:45.67.
DIVING
- On 3-meter, Holly Prasanto was the runner-up scoring 293.78, a new career high and NCAA Zone qualifying score. She bested her previous mark of 284.85 set against Harvard at home last season.
Giulia Vittorioso finished third scoring 263.10.
