Six world records went down Thursday in London, but it was British star Alice Tai‘s continued stellar performance that headlined the evening. Tai won the S8 400 free in 4:49.01, her fourth win of the week (S8 100 free, 100 back and 100 fly are the others). She best second-place finisher Xenia Palazzo (ITA, 4:51.21) by 2.20 seconds and American Jessica Long by 2.44 seconds (4:51.45).
Long’s prelims time of 4:49.54 would have moved her up a spot in the final.
Russia’s Roman Zhdanov wasted no time notching the first world record of the fourth night of the 2019 World Para Swimming World Championships, getting it down in prelims. Zhadanov went 41.50 in his morning swim of the men’s S4 50 back, but ended up taking bronze in the final in 43.52. Cameron Leslie, of Australia, took gold in 42.13 (an Oceania record) and Arnost Petracek silver in 43.48.
Ukrainian Bohdan Hrynenko hit the first world record of finals, winning the men’s S7 100 back in 1:08.92. Andrei Gladkov (RUS) went took silver in 1:09.60 and Pipo Carlomagno (ARG) was third in 1:09.69.
China’s Lichao Wang scored the third world record of the day, going 31.52 to win the men’s S5 50 fly. In second was Ukrainian Yaroslav Semenenko in 33.22, a new European record. Brazilian veteran Daniel Dias was third in 34.44
The men’s and women’s S11 200 IM saw world records fall at the hands of Dutch swimmers. Rogier Dorsman won the men’s race in 2:22.01, followed by Keiichi Kimura (JPN) in 2:26.58 and Viktor Smyrnov (UKR) in 2:29.87. On the women’s side, it was Liessette Bruinsma who took gold in 2:46.49, Maryna Piddubna (UKR) silver in 2:49.04, and Xiaotong Zhang (CHN) bronze in 2:49.22.
Great Britain closed out the day with a world record in the S14 4×100 mixed medley relay, winning by seven seconds in 3:42.21. Jessica Applegate, Bethany Firth, Thomas Hamer and Reece Dunn comprised the team.

- Argentinian Pipo Carlomagno notched an Americas record in the men’s S7 100 back, going 1:09.69.
- Jiao Cheng set an Asian record taking silver in the women’s SM5 200 IM, going 3:25.13.
- Brazil set an Americas record in the S14 4×100 mixed medley relay, going 3:52.91. Hong Kong’s team set an Asian record, going 4:00.28.
