Saint Francis Spoils Siena’s Senior Day With 146-59 Victory

The Red Flash swim team had a dominating performance against the Siena Saints on Saturday. Saint Francis won 10 of the 11 events contested to continue their win streak against the Saints.

The Red Flash started the meet off strong with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph’s), Mackenzie Lawson (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School), Jessica Rupp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin), and Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) combined for a first place time of 1:51.36. Urska Medvesek (Maribor, Slovenia/Gymnasium Maribor), Erin O’Neill (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), Olivia Fravel (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area), and Katelyn O’Connor (Torrance, Calif./South High) followed closely for the second place finish in a pace of 1:52.44.

Emma Karell (Norrtälje, Sweden/Täby Swim Club) kept the winning rolling with a first place finish in the 1000 freestyle. After a tough first 600, Karell began to pull away. She touched the wall 11 seconds ahead of second place with a time of 10:47.64. Jacquelyn Rocque (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) placed third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:06.02. Emily Graziano(Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) followed closely behind Rocque for the fourth place finish. Graziano touched the wall in a pace of 11:08.34.

Rupp and Medvesek had a close race in the 200 freestyle with only .12 seconds separating the two of them. Rupp touched the wall in third place with a pace of 2:01.07 and Medvesek touched the wall for fourth place in a time of 2:01.19.

Katelyn O’Connor (Torrance, Calif./South High) had her first individual event win in the 50 freestyle where so came to the wall in a time of 25.31. Emily Anderson (Middlesburg Heights, Ohio/Berea-Midpark) was close behind and touched the wall in third place. Anderson recorded a time of 26.30. Olivia Fravel (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) claimed the fourth place spot with a time of 26.76.

The Red Flash claimed three of the top four spots in the 200 individual medley, which was led by Bowman. Bowman claimed first place with a time of 2:11.87. Lafferty took second with a time of 2:15.65. Emelia Cronshaw (Strafford, N.H./Coe-Brown Northwood Academy) touched the wall in fourth place. Cronshaw swam a pace of 2:19.71.

Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) claimed her first event win in the 200 butterfly. She won by a convincing two seconds. Quon touched the wall in a time of 2:11.05. Rory O’Dell (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) swam a pace of 2:14.14, good for third place. Rocque followed closely behind O’Dell and touched the wall in fifth place with a time of 2:19.01.

For the second time of the meet, O’Connor claimed first place. This time, O’Connor claimed the title in the 100 freestyle, where she touched the wall in a time of 54.64. O’Neill finished second in the 100 freestyle with a pace of 55.19. Kristen Toth (Silver Spring, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) touched the wall in a time of 56.47, good for fourth place.

The 200 backstroke was a close race the entire time, and ended with a tie. Lafferty and Rupp were neck to neck the entire race and ended up touching the wall at the same time to claim the win. They touched the wall in a time of 2:12.99. Marisa Daly(Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan) claimed third place, behind Rupp and Lafferty, touching the wall in a time of 2:13.66.

Once again, the Red Flash took three of the top four places, this time in the 500 freestyle. Quon secured her second win of the day when she touched the wall in a time of 5:17.91, three and a half seconds ahead of second place. Camille Nguyen (Mason, Ohio/Mason) claimed the second spot with a pace of 5:21.19. Graziano touched the wall in fourth place, swimming a pace of 5:24.66.

Karell had another close race, this time in the 200 breaststroke. The race was tied for the first 150, until Karell pulled ahead for the last 50. Karell won the event in a time of 2:26.49. Laura Patrick (Lake Charles, La./St. Louis Catholic) claimed the third place spot when she touched the wall in a time of 2:31.31. Kasey Marks (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) grabbed the fifth place spot, touching the wall in a time of 2:42.20.

The team of Bowman, O’Neill, Toth, and Quon ended the meet in dominating fashion. The quartet combined to win the 200 freestyle relay by two seconds. They stopped the clock in a time of 1:41.48.

The Red Flash are back in action on January 27th when they compete in the Western PA Invite at Pitt.
