Saint Francis Takes 10 Events in 160-92 Win over Long Island

Brooklyn, NY- The Saint Francis University Swimming team swam past LIU today in a 160 to 92 victory. The Red Flash came to win, with three swimmers placing first not once, but twice as well as winning both relays. This is the second win of this season against LIU.

Red Flash Recap – As a team, the Red Flash tallied ten first place finishes out of the fourteen events they competed in today against the Sharks. SFU continues their win streak this season and extends it to 4 straight after an impressive win today.

Saint Francis came in first and second in the 200-yard Medley Relay. The first-place finishers included sophomores Amelia Laudenbach (Kambah, Australia/Trinity Christian School), Annabelle McCullough (Mercersburg, PA./James Buchanan High School), freshman Krysta Weik (Lebanon, Pa/Cedar Crest) and senior Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph’s) with a time of 1:49.67. Close behind in second with a time of 1:51.22, junior Urska Medvesek (Maribor, Slovenia/Gymnasium Maribor), senior Erin O’Neil, sophomore Rebecca Pendleton (Maple Glen, PA/Upper Dublin High Schhol), and junior Katelyn O’Connor (Torrance, Calif./South High).

In the 200-yard Freestyle, senior Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) came out on top with a time of 1:59.50. Right behind her was freshman Zoey Wilson (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield Area) who swam a 2:01.92.

Sophomore Rebecca Pendleton (Maple Glen, PA/Upper Dublin High Schhol) came in first with a time of 2:13.19 in the 200-yard Butterfly as well as the 100-yard butterfly in a quick time of 59.98.

Seniors Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph’s) and Erin O’Neil came in first and second in the 50-yard freestyle with speedy times of 24.58 and 25.42. Bowman as well placed first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.14.

In the 100-yard freestyle sophomore Annabelle McCullough (Mercersburg, PA./James Buchanan High School) placed first in 53.75.

The Red Flash dominated in the 200-yard breaststroke placing first, second, and third. In first came senior Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) with a time of 2:12:02. Second, was junior Urska Medvesek (Maribor, Slovenia/Gymnasium Maribor) in 2:13.38. And in third, junior Jessica Rupp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) swam a time of 2:15.25.

In the 500-yard freestyle sophomore Amelia Laudenbach (Kambah, Australia/Trinity Christian School) placed first with a time of 5:15.98.

Wrapping up the meet was the 400-yard freestyle relay where the SFU team of junior Katelyn O’Connor (Torrance, Calif./South High), sophomore Annabelle McCullough (Mercersburg, PA./James Buchanan High School), and seniors Kristen Toth (Silver Spring, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) and Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) placed first just ahead of the LIU sharks. These four swam in a time of 3:40.11 which outlasted the sharks who were very close behind with a time of 3:41.19.

The Saint Francis University swim team posted another impressive score of 160 to 92 to outlast the sharks and keep up their winning streak for the season.

The Red Flash will be back in action the end of this month when they head to Lynchburg, VA to compete against Liberty University November 22nd to the 24th.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Long Island University women’s swim team fell to Saint Francis University in dual meet action in LIU Pool Saturday afternoon, 160-102.

LIU had a strong individual start in the 1000 free, as freshman Reyna Iwamoto and sophomore Amanda San Juan went 1-2. Iwamoto touched the wall in 10:51.41, just ahead of San Juan’s 10:56.30. The two beat the nearest Red Flash swimmer by over 20 seconds.

Another win for LIU came in the 100 back, when junior Amanda Peren won in 58.58. Freshman Tara Cabiling followed that up with a win for LIU in the 100 breaststroke, in 1:08.19. Junior Kyleigh Barao also scored points in the event, coming in third with a time of 1:09.55. The Sharks also went 2-3 in the 200 butterfly to pick up some points, led by senior Noemie Lacroix-Moreau (2:16.91), and Iwawmoto ‘s 2:19.02.

Peren also picked up a second place finish in the 100 free, with a time of 54.14, while Cabiling won her second event of the day, winning the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:27.49.

LIU went 2-3 in the 500 free as well, with Jeanne Touchette-McGowan coming in second in 5:20.52, while sophomore Maja Uduc came in third in 5:26.91.

Sophomore Jacqueline Grabowski had a second place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:00.15), while Peren also took second in the 200 IM (2:13.36).

The Sharks capped the meet with a second place finish in the 400 free relay, in 3:41.19.

Up next for LIU is a road trip to take on Lafayette, Friday, November 8 at 6 p.m., before they return to Brooklyn to host Army, Saturday, November 9 at 2 p.m.
