The Saint John’s Prep boys were dominant in the team scoring as they took the 2020 Massachusetts Division 1 State Championships title, making it 5-straight titles. They won the meet by over 100 points. Saint John’s kicked things off with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:36.59). Jake Thomas led them off with a 25.59 back split, handing off to Palmer Randall for a 26.39 breast leg. Andrew Coady put up a 23.61 on the fly, while Kai Zola anchored in 21.00. That was their only event win of the day, but they had the depth to run away with the team victory.
West Springfield’s Eric Eastham repeated as champion in the 200 free, taking the title in 1:40.49. Eastham, the 2019 champion in the 100 free, took silver in that event this season. Brookline’s Soeren Euvrard came from behind to get his hand to the wall first in 46.03 the Eastham’s 46.44. Euvrard’s swim was a best by 3 tenths.
Tommy Russell of Westfield repeated as the 100 back champion, posting a 51.86 to come within a few tenths of his best, Russell also won the 50 free this season, out-touching Euvrard 21.19 to 21.21 as both boys swam best times.
Chelmsford ‘s Aaron Zhu, Lynnfield’s Antonio Anastasiades, and Minnechaug’s Chase Konstantakos also earned repeat titles. Zhu dropped nearly half a second to win the 200 IM in 1:52.14. In the 100 breast, Anastasiades raced to a 57.59 ahead of Zhu (58.04) as they both came within a couple tenths of their bests. Konstantakos was just a hundredth away from his best to win the 500 free in 4:36.08.
