Sam Kline‘s recent commitment gives the Texas Longhorns their first verbal commitment from the class of 2016. The defending NCAA Champions have been relatively quiet this recruiting season. This is the first public commitment the Longhorns have received, and with 18 of the top 20 American recruits already committed, swimming fans are starting to get curious.
Last year, the Longhorns had more NCAA Qualifiers than any other school in the country. The problem, however, is that because of roster limits, they were not able to bring all of their qualifiers to Iowa for the NCAA Championships. Because of this, I doubt they are trying to bring in a huge class, but they still graduated eight swimmers and one diver.
Kline is a Texas native, representing Texas Ford Aquatics in Frisco, Texas. His strongest events are currently the middle distance freestyles and the 200 backstroke. He has the potential to develop into a strong swimmer for the Longhorns, and will add to theor depth charts.
He is the defending Texas 5A State Champion in the 200 and 500 freestyle and will be shooting to defend his titles as a senior for Frisco Wakeland High School.
Kline’s best times in yards:
- 200 Free – 1:38.01
- 200 Back – 1:50.24
- 500 Free – 4:28.00
- 100 Back – 51.24
If you have a commitment to report, please send an email to [email protected].
Congrats to Kline, Hook ‘Em kid!
That picture may also quite possibly be the most exciting and best thing to happen in UT’s football stadium this fall.
Cal fans already scared. They were in 2009 full body suits. They do that once a year for fun
I do not remember anyone in speedos, although in my age memory is not very reliable. Typically, I would say they would be much slower as Eddie kills them in October and November, but there is so much speed on this team even Eddie cannot slow them down. They are racing each other, who they swim against is less important. But, what do I know… I am just enjoying watching history as I think this is Eddie’s last year if he wins it all again.
@Psychodad Was the Texas team in jammers or speedos for the intrasquad? Do you expect faster times at the tri-meet? Im just curious.
Interesting information about the meet tomorrow against Florida and Indiana at the Texas Swim Center:
“The meet will take on a unique format in which the three teams will go head-to-head in a 50-meter competition pool (used for Olympics, World Championships, etc.) in Friday’s events and a 25-yard short-course pool for Saturday’s events. “
There is more interesting things going on about that meet.
Few swimmers quit and few graduated, and I was told Texas will not be replacing all of them – smaller roster next year.
Sam Kline is ranked 6th on College Swimming; among top 5, 4 of them swam at Nitro.
Anyway, Florida and Indiana in town – off to watch tomorrow. Hook’em!
