Sam McHugh of the Baylor School has wrapped the 2013 Martha Bass Invitational with two more Pool Records, to go along with the three he set on Saturday.

The latest two came in the 200 yard IM, where he was 1:50.9 in the 200 yard IM and a 1:49.2 in the 200 yard fly: new all-time bests at Baylor’s historic pool.

Also on Sunday, he went a 46.6 in the 100 yard free, a 1:50.0 in the 200 yard back, and a 4:29.5, unsuited, in the 500 yard free.

He’s just a part of what we’ve seen this year that has been a ton of early, fast high school swims. Schooling and Dressel down in Florida, Roberts in Texas, Andrew Seliskar out in the Metroplex; all around the country, we’re seeing fewer guys trudging through their “regular season” looking like they’re totally destroyed from practice. Whether that’s just a different kind of athlete, who is able to swim this well even while doing huge workouts, or if we’re seeing an overall training shift, the early-season glass-ceiling is cracking.
