Sam Wicks, Cari Reiswig are first Mountain West weekly award winners of 2014-2015

Boise State swimmer Sam Wicks and San Jose State diver Cari Reiswig are the inaugural winners of the Mountain West Conference’s weekly awards for the 2014-2015 season.

Wicks won six individual events over two meets last week, most notably helping Boise State beat a very good Utah squad by just 13 points on Wednesday night. She won the 100 back and 100 free, going 55.87 and 51.42, respectively, and came back to win the 200 IM late in the meet in 2:04.69.

The junior originally from Alaska was even better on Saturday, cutting more time in the 100 back (she was 55.46) and 200 IM (2:04.49) and also won the 50 free in 23.54. Wicks was a dominating force as Boise State crushed their in-state rivals Idaho by over 100.

Reiswig, meanwhile, earns her first ever conference honor after her first ever college meet. The freshman won the 1-meter springboard event at the Fresno State Bulldog Invite with a score of 291.65. That’s good enough to qualify her for the NCAA Zone meet, an impressive feat for a rookie in her first ever collegiate contest.

The Mountain West Conference (a women’s-only conference in swimming) typically announces its weekly award winners via video on its website; you can view that video here.
