James Madison Sweeps CAA Weekly Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – Juniors Bonnie Zhang and Hope Byrum swept the Colonial Athletic Association weekly honors, earning CAA Swimmer of the Week and Diver of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.

Zhang contributed three wins in James Madison’s meet against Cincinnati, George Washington and Virginia Tech on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. Zhang placed first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.22 and took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.42. She had the fastest split in both the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay, helping the Dukes place first in the 200 freestyle relay and second in the 400 medley relay.

Byrum earned zone-qualifying scores in both the 1- and 3-meter dives in James Madison’s meet against Cincinnati, George Washington and Virginia Tech at Christiansburg Aquatic Center on Jan. 19. She scored a 295 to place second overall in the 1-meter dive and scored a 289 in the 3-meter dive to place fourth overall.

This is Zhang’s third CAA Swimmer of the Week honor this season and Byrum’s second Diver of the Week.

The Dukes will make the day trip to Richmond to face the Spiders on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. in the Robins Center Natatorium.
