Sept 30th, SwimSwam reported San Antonio officials were in talks with USA Swimming to bring “three major meets” to the Northside ISD Swim Center in 2015. Below is USA Swimming’s official announcement.

USA Swimming announced today that San Antonio, Texas, has been awarded two of the sport’s top domestic meets in 2015 – the Phillips 66 National Championships and Speedo Junior National Championships.

San Antonio’s Northside Swim Center is slated to host both competitions. Completed in July 2013, the facility features a 50-meter, Olympic-size outdoor pool and 25-meter diving and warm-up pool. The outdoor swim center features shaded seating for 2,400 spectators, as well as high-tech timing, lighting, sound and video scoreboard systems. Locker room facilities can accommodate as many as 1,200 athletes.

A key meet in preparation for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, the 2015 Phillips 66 National Championships is scheduled for Aug. 4-8. This meet will feature the nation’s top swimmers, including USA Swimming National Team members and Olympic medalists.

The 2015 Speedo Junior National Championships, which will feature the nation’s top up-and-coming swimmers, will take place Aug. 10-14. Athletes ages 14 through 18 compete annually at Speedo Junior Nationals.

Northside Swim Center recently hosted the 2013 AAU Diving National Championships and is scheduled to host a number of high-level swim meets, including the 2014 USA Swimming Southern Zone Age Group Championships and the 2015 U.S. Masters Swimming Spring Nationals.

Additionally, San Antonio was one of three finalists to host the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming, which were ultimately awarded to Omaha, Neb., earlier this year.

Irvine, Calif., will host the 2014 Phillips 66 National Championships and Speedo Junior National Championships.

Prepare to melt. Too hot in Texas for an outdoor meet in the summer – for both swimmers and spectators. Poor backstrokers – they will be seeing sun spots for hours. That said, I will be there cheering everyone on.

Very true…..If it’s a typical Texas summer, it will be running close to 100 (or plus!) degrees daily…..But like you, I will be there, too. Glad that San Antonio got a consolation prize after losing the Trials.
