San Antonio’s Northside Swim Center Selected as Site of US Olympic Team’s Domestic Staging Camp

USA Swimming has just announced that the site of the 2016 Olympic team’s domestic training camp will be the Northside Swim Center located in San Antonio, Texas. After completing the Olympic Trials, which take place from June 26 – July 3rd in Omaha, Nebraska, Olympic-qualifiers will travel to Northside for approximately 9 days before then moving on to its international staging camp in Puerto Rico.

Area swimmers, fans and spectators will be able to attend an open practice and autograph session in San Antonio, with the timing of such events as to be determined.

Of the site selection, USA Swimming National Team Director Frank Busch stated, “The Northside Swim Center is one of the top swimming facilities in the United States and will provide an excellent training environment for our athletes to prepare for the 2016 Olympic Games.”

The Northside facility features a 50-meter outdoor pool, 25-meter diving/warm-up pool, as well seating for 2400 spectators.  The site, which was completed in June 2013, is also set to host three notable swimming events this year as well, with the USMS Spring Nationals in April, the Speedo Junior National Championships in late July and the Phillips 66 National Championships in August.

Northside Independent School District Superintendent, Dr. Brian T. Woods, expressed that “Hosting the 2016 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team at the Northside Swim Center is a tremendous honor for the Northside Independent School District, the city of San Antonio, and all of Texas.”

 Significant Dates for the 2016 Olympic Swimming Team:
– June 25-July 3, 2016: U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming, Omaha, Nebraska
– July 13-21, 2016: Domestic Training Camp, San Antonio, Texas
– Dates TBD: International Training Camp, San Juan, Puerto Rico
– August 6-13, 2016: 2016 Olympic Games Pool Competition, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
– August 15-16, 2016: 2016 Olympic Games Open Water Competition, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
