San Jose State Women, Seattle Men Come Out On Top At Husky Invite

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – San José State women’s swimming and diving took care of business on the final day of the Husky Invitational as they won both the college division and overall team score with a total of 972 on Sunday.

“After a bit of a tough start it was great to see the team rally and finish the meet on such a strong note,” head coach Sage Hopkins said. “At this point we are looking forward to refining some aspects of our racing as we begin the final preparations for the Mountain West Championships and postseason.”

The Spartans distanced themselves from second place Mission Viejo Nadadores (754) and third place University of Idaho (725). They opened the day with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.55. Six individual swimmers placed in the top-10 in their respective races as well. Madison Grimes finished seventh in the 200 backstroke and Chloe Limargo took third in the 200 breaststroke. SJSU also had a 4-5-6 finish in 100 freestyle as Antoinette Loya (58.68), Gabby Heng (58.75) and Katie McIntee (58.83) led the way with Kimberlee Giggey (59.38) coming in 10th.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — The Seattle U men’s swimming team wrapped up the Husky Invitational and the 2019 portion of its schedule on Sunday with nine qualifying marks to the 2020 USA Swimming Futures Championships.

Jack Neton headlined the day in the 200 Breaststroke posting a time of 2:04.07 during the morning preliminaries. In the long course finals, Neton completed the the 200-meter race in 2:20.45, earning him a second-place finish.

Will Corona also had a noteworthy day in the 200 Breaststroke as he logged a lifetime-best of 2:04.81, with his performance being the the 10th-best in program history.

Greg RaperRyan Shaw and Ryan Ascencio also registered Futures qualifying times. Raper claimed his place in the 100-yard Freestyle with a time of 45.61. Meanwhile Shaw and Ascencio qualified in the 200 Backstroke (1:52.36) and 200 Butterfly (1:52.59), respectively.

Tyler Goodspeed and Emmett Moore also secured places in next summer’s Futures event. For Goodspeed, it was his second of the weekend as he touched in at 46.57 during the 100-yard Freestyle. Moore meanwhile posted his third qualifying time of the Husky Invitational, scoring a 1:53.42 during the 200 Butterfly.

The Redhawks’ relay teams also thrived on the final day with both 400 Freestyle quartets recording Futures qualifying times. The team of the Raper, Parker, Corona and Goodspeed finished second-overall as they came in at 3:04.31, registering the seventh-best time in Redhawk history. The team of Zach ZentenoJake GoguenAlex Roderick and Connor Barringer were clocked in at 3:08.66 and followed with a fourth-place finish

Seattle U resumes action in 2020 when it returns to the Redhawk Center on January 11 as it hosts Whitworth University for senior day.
