Sarah Sjostrom Breaks 100 Free Swedish Record at Junior SC Nats

Swedish superstar Sarah Sjostrom tacked on another Swedish Record at the 2012 Short Course Junior Nationals in Valby, just outside of Stockholm.

After breaking the 200 IM short course record on Friday, she tagged on a 52.15 in the 100 free. That clears Therese Alshammar’s 12-year old mark of 52.17 just by a sliver, and Sjostrom’s personal best by only .03. It also vaults her ahead of Dana Vollmer for 11th on the all-time list. Hers wasn’t the only big swim of that race – fellow 18-year old Michelle Coleman took 2nd in 52.96 (4th-best in Swedish history), and Louise Hansson, who’s a bright young sprint star for the Swedes, took 3rd in 53.73. That’s a great time for a 15-year old, and the best of her career.

She will swim the 100 fly on Sunday, which is her best race. Don’t be surprised to see her go a best time in that race (clearing 56.42), though Therese Alshammar’s 55.53 National Record will be a big challenge.
