Sarah Sjostrom to Race 4 Individual Events in London

Swedish superstar Sarah Sjostrom has four individual entries, combined with a pair of relay swims, for her 2012 London Summer Olympic Games schedule.

According to the FINA entry lists, the Swedish Olympic Committee has confirmed her into the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles, as well as her specialty the 100 fly. That will be one more race than she swam at last year’s World Championships, with the addition of the 100 free to her schedule and with the 50 free replacing the 50 fly she swam in Shanghai.

This schedule will play out just-about-perfectly for her at the meet, as she’ll only thrice have sessions with multiple races (in both cases, relays coupled with relatively-unstressful individuals). Further, with her massive improvements in the freestyle events in the last year, she now is a medal candidate in each of those four individual swims. The 50 is the biggest question-mark, but she was a 24.75 in December in that race, which is not a far leap to a 24-low with how well she’s been swimming.

Sjostrom Entries:

  • 400 Free Relay (Day 1)
  • 100 Fly (Day 1/2)
  • 200 Free (Day 3/4)
  • 100 Free (Day 5/6)
  • 50 Free (Days 7/8)
  • 400 Medley Relay (Day 8)

And WOW.

Sjoestrom’s schedule is PERFECT for her.
She’ll have her strongest event on as first on schedule and also has 4×100 free at the end of the evening to sharpen her speed.

Previously, I didn’t give her much chance in the 200 free, but now looking at her schedule, I can see her going at least 1:55low

Wrong. Phelps will swim 100 free, 100 fly, 100 back

On a separate note, this is also the schedule Phelps will swim when he un-retires for Rio

I don’t see Phelps ever seriously swimming the 50.

Vollmer has been on fire, she is the favorite, and its difficult to bet against her. However, she has a similar chink in her armor as Rebecca Soni. If Sjostrom wins this race, its very possible that its going to be in a time that is well within Vollmer’s capabilities.

Additionally, do not count out Alicia Coutts or Lu Ying. I feel that given Vollmer’s “tactic during rounds”, this race could very well be won in a 56.mid, which isn’t a time out of many of these girls’ reach.

Jonh26,
If i am not mistaken, Coutts made 56.9 right after a 200IM.That is huge.

I’m curious whether Vollmer is really that big of a favorite in the 100 fly over Sjostrom. Yes, Vollmer has been on fire in the fly this year, but Sjostrom has looked great in general. Plus the 100 fly comes early in Sjostrom’s program. I think it could be a very close race.
